Website Basics
Don't know what you need? Websites often fall into two broad categories:
An informational website is similar to a printed brochure - mostly providing content
to your audience. The site's objective is to offer information including the
"who, what, where, when and how" of your organization.
A transactional (or eCommerce) website is for those who would like to conduct
transactions (e.g., sell goods or services) online. This type of site
typically displays products and provides the ability to
complete the purchase transaction online. Requirements for a transactional
website vary wildly and are dependent on your unique situation, products you
offer, frequency of catalog update, stock management, etc., but
share some common elements:
- An Internet merchant account
- Payment processing gateway
- Storefront Interface / Shopping Cart
- Secure Internet Services
